Brangus itself is a cross between a Brahman and Angus breed of cattle. Its breed means that it has the hardiness and ability to withstand temperature like a brahmin, but the meat and milk of an angus. It was first bred in the United States in the early 1900's, and spread to Australia and all over the world.
Red Brangus is an even more hardy and weather-proof version of the Brangus which is naturally a reddish color and polled. The purpose of cross breeding the Red Brangus was to take on all of the good traits of the famous Angus breed and the hardy Brahman breed. Great meat, milking, and fertility are boasted from the Angus side, while the maternal instincts, durability, and disease resistance come from the Brahman side. All of these advantages make it an ideal cattle to breed and eat almost anywhere in the world, and is spread out as such.
Red Brangus calves are known for their high weight gain during the weaning period. They mature faster than other breeds of cattle and exit puberty at an earlier age. Fully grown bulls weigh anywhere from 1800 to 2000 pounds with females weighing a little more than half that, around 1100 pounds. Red Brangus cattle maintain fertility much better than many other breeds, which means it will produce more calves for a longer period of time. This makes it a popular breed for many ranchers. As mentioned before, the meat of the Red Brangus is ideal, and tastes great even when only lightly peppered.
Red Brangus is an ideal breed with many advantages. The cattle can easily survive in many climates and still produce a great output for the ranchers that choose to breed them.
